Exclamation Read Before Posting

The following are guidelines for posting on these forums:
(These guidelines are subject to new additions or changes)

Forum Conduct
Flaming

Flaming will NOT be tolerated in any way shape or form.
If a member is found to be overly aggressive or abusive the individual is subject to an immediate forum ban without warning.

Additional Rules
  • PLEASE REFRAIN FROM USING ALL CAPS FOR MORE THAN JUST A FEW WORDS AT A TIME. This can be hard to read and members might think you are yelling at them

Materials
Spamming
  • Spamming will not be tolerated. Although advertising your services is allowed at NY-Dev, spamming is not.
  • Any repeated posting with irrelevant topics and or short posts in miscellaneous forums will be considered spamming.
  • If a member is found to have posted only one post in a thread advertising his product and has not visited the forums in an extended period of time, that member will be banned and his or hers post removed.
  • If you have nothing to talk about but your service or product please see the door; we will not tolerate blatant self promotion at the price of lowering the quality of our community.
Posting
  • Before creating a new thread, your topic might have been discussed in another. Do a forum search and you might find what you are looking for.
  • Find the appropriate forum for your post. Please be sure to review all forum categories by description before creating a thread.(Crossposting will not be tolerated)
Posting Images
If you are going to post an image from a URL using
Code:
["image"]your image here["/image"]
tags please do not post any images larger than 450px in width or 650px in height. Anything larger than the specified height and width stretches out our forum table, makes things look bad and hard to view. If you want to post a larger image please include it as an attachment to your post.

Please do not post copyrighted materials unless you own them or specify otherwise in the post.

Signatures Forum signatures are allowed.
  • You may post an image in your forum signature, but if that image is found to be offensive or contain inappropriate content that signature may be removed by one of our administrator/moderators.
  • Please don't use annoyingly long text signatures with a ton of links in them. This may be confusing to other members.
  • A rel = noflow will be added to signatures for members with a post count of less than 10 and or if that member's post is less than 100 words. This means the member's signature will not be followed by search engine bots, thus leaving no chances for a backlink for that member. This feature has been added to encourage quality posts and activity for our forums.(administrators and members who have obtained special privileges are exempt.)

Default Critiques

The Opinions on Your Design Forum

One of the main reasons we are here as a community on NY-Dev is to give opinions on one another’s work. Members join and post new projects in development and will want to discuss ways to improve their design with their peers. It is helpful when a member can get real constructive criticism about their design. Although I’m sure any member would be flattered by a comment like “great job! You’re the man!” a post like “I really enjoy the way the light on the left hand side reflects well with the navigation bar” would be a lot more helpful for the member’s growth as a designer or programmer.

The way you accept constructive criticism as the member looking for critiques is also very important. If you plan on being and active member and posting your work here regularly other members might be turned off if you don’t take criticism well.

If you are going to be giving your opinion on someone else’s work:
  • Remember we are giving constructive criticism and this forum was not meant to bash others.
  • Try to be specific and use as much detail in your opinion as possible. “I don’t like it” and “good job” might not cut it for the individual who initially posted the thread.

Default Member Showcase Forum

The Member Showcase forum is not to be confused with the Opinions on Your Design forum.

Post finished projects here that you don’t particularly need opinions on, but rather just show off. Keep in mind though that it is not against the rules to post an opinion or two in this forum.

If you have finished a design or script that requires an opinion this is not the forum to post in. You may have already posted in the Opinions on Your Design forum and are ready to showcase your work.
